Seasons

I'm a little peeved with Lauryl (the acupuncturist). At my appointment this week I mentioned that I'm meeting with the IVF coordinator at the RE's office next week and am still planning to to the IVF cycle sometime in Jan or Feb. She proceeded to tell me how this was not a good idea. It went something like this, "Oh, don't do it in the winter, kindey yang is low in the winter, the spring would be much better...just look at nature."

While a part of me would like to be all earth mother about this, I'm also afraid of waiting too long and missing my chance. Not that another few months would make a big difference, it just seems ridiculous that in the context of something high intervention like IVF the seasons or cycles of the moon would really have anything to do with it. Babies are conceived all the time, every season.

So, I'd like to take an informal poll, when did you conceive? Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall? Is there anything to this seasonal stuff?

Caden was winter (Feb.)...cold times in Knoxville. Corban was "spring" (middle of march) but we had nice hot weather in Togo. I agree with you....kids are conceived at all times of the year, otherwise we'd all have generally the same birthday.

Jackson was Spring (March maybe April) and Baby Bean 2 was fall (September). I agree any season is a good time to concieve a baby!

Gideon was a honeymoon baby...so Sept. And Naomi "began" in May.

I got the following stat from the pregnancy calendar I use on line. And according to it, Dec./Jan. is the time to conceive.

"Did you know that the peak time of year for babies to be born is late summer? On the flip side, fewer births occur during the middle of winter and around the holidays."

Hannah was March or April too. That is three for March/April. Really though I think that you should get started whenever you want. Like April said we don't all have the same b-day so babies can be conceived anytime.

Hey Jessicca, This is Rachel Grubb. I've been reading for a while, but I finally felt like I should comment. We both lived in Stephens my sophomore year (I think your freshman year) and I graduated a year ahead of you in nursing school. Anyway, I think it's silly to think that spring is the best time to conceive. Cade was conceived in June and Keira in December. As a labor and delivery nurse, my 6 years of experience has shown that September and October are the busiest months (meaning the babies were conceived in December or January.) Best of luck to you!!

My son was born in April, so he was conceived in the summer. When I was at the hospital with him, the L&D nurse said that Sept/Oct were their busiest months (as Rachel already mentioned).

Jess- Just thought I'd get in on the poll. : ) Hannah was conceived in early November. Something about conceiving now is that you aren't pregnant all summer. I'd be a little miffed too. Hmmm- I think she should support your decision, and help you boost your liver and ying. : ) Mo

tons of babies (including Sam) are conceived in the winter...the weather is cold...everyone is indoors cozy...and it explains the summer baby boom. I would say to Laurel "good think I'm getting acupuncture to correct that pesky low kidney yang in the winter!"

Gosh, it should be easier to remember this stuff... :) Caleb was May, Noah was July, and the new one was August. Or somewhere close to those months. Hope that helps!

Late November. And all of the OB nurses at PVH said that August was super busy...so winter must be a pretty common time to conceive. And I loved being pregnant in the summer...it's fun to wear dresses and tank tops and not have to find big, bulky sweaters to cover that huge belly!
